Michigan Managed Forest

Research Overview
I am currently working on a project that takes an integrated ecological-economic approach to investigate the managed forest landscapes of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The forest has been experiencing low tree regeneration due to overabundant white-tailed deer. Declines in habitat for songbirds of conservation concern have been observed due to deer impacts and timber harvesting.

To investigate these phenomena, our objectives are to:

  1. develop and validate a systems ecological-economic model
  2. conduct simulation experiments and test hypotheses using the model
  3. use research products for education and extension.

A presentation outlining the current state of the project is available (works best with the Firefox browser). The project is ongoing and I will be posting updates on my blog.
